In a move aimed at boosting local economic development and attracting new businesses, Coral Springs is set to enter into a multi-year agreement with The Retail Coach, a consulting firm based in Tupelo, Mississippi.

The city’s Economic Development Department and Purchasing Division are recommending approval of a $95,000 contract for an initial two-year term with the option to extend the agreement through 2031. Under the proposal, the city’

s purchasing manager would also be authorized to approve renewals and change orders up to $75,000 within the city’s procurement guidelines.

The agreement stems from a broader initiative developed during a recent yearlong community visioning process, during which residents and businesses identified a desire for expanded retail, dining, and entertainment offerings in Coral Springs. That input led city leaders to launch a formal effort in fiscal year 2025 to push for targeted retail growth.

The Retail Coach was selected following a competitive Request for Proposal process that began in April, city officials said.

Only two proposals were submitted, and both firms were interviewed in July by a city evaluation committee. The Retail Coach received the highest overall score based on its national track record, its proprietary lead-tracking software, and its commitment to ongoing support and coaching, officials said.

As part of its proposed contract with Coral Springs, the firm would conduct a detailed analysis of the city’s current retail landscape, identify areas of “retail leakage” — where spending is lost to neighboring markets — and pursue recruitment strategies tailored to Coral Springs’ demographics and goals.

The total expenditure for the first term of the contract is already included in the city’s approved operating budget, officials said.

Commissioners are slated to vote on the proposed agreement at Wednesday’s commission meeting.
